Metal Technology Curtain walling for Tesco creates shoppers paradise A curtain walling system by Metal Technology has been used to help draw shoppers into the new Tesco store in Lurgen, south of Lough Neagh. System 17, a single storey glazed facade was installed by fabricator Douglas Architectural. The project team was headed by architects Ostick & Williams and building contractors Patton Construction. System 17 was said to be idea following the store's normal format of long span, solar-protected glazing to bring as much light - but not heat - into the building. System 17 is specifically designed to give limitless flexibility to architects and is said to be suitable for both high and low rise facades. The narrow sight lines and robust design can be configured to suit the character and restrictions of many building styles.

Keeping hush in the City

Metal Technology Keeping hush in the CityLondon's Buckle Street, E1, is the location of a new five story luxury apartment block designed by Osel Architecture for client MiNC City Reach. The site was hand picked for being ideal for City professionals and those wanting to be close to central London. Osel's brief was to provide bright, airy modern accommodation. The use of high-spec acoustic glazing was also used to emphasise the property's sound insulation and desirability with the architect maximising the light into each apartment. As part of the project, fabricators, BSF supplied and installed Metal Technology's high performance System 5-20 story height composite windows, including some side-hung opening lights, as the main glazing element, with blue/grey aluminium panels to the lower panes.

Metal Technology shines at Aintree

Metal Technology Metal Technology shines at AintreeAintree's £35 million redevelopment using Metal Technology's architectural aluminium has been completed. The aluminium was used on two grandstands, a media centre, weighing room and bar. The Antrim-based company's high performance System 17 curtain walls was used throughout. However, the company said, its most dramatic effect was in the identical grandstands built next to the Queen Mother Stand. The grandstands are linked by the two-story circular Saddle Bar with facetted System 17. At the south end of the parade ring, overlooking the winners enclosure, the media centre has a curved glazed facade also constructed from System 17.

BMW showroom

Metal Technology BMW showroomSituated in Warrington, a new BMW Mini showroom has been glazed with System 17 curtain walling from Metal Technology. The facade, which also includes System 10 glazed doors and System 4-20 windows, is incorporated with the black aluminium cladding on the building to give an aesthetically pleasing finish. In order to fulfill bespoke requirements for architects, the company also offers the facilities to create specific designs.

Glazing over the investment development

Metal Technology Glazing over the investment developmentA new business park has opened in Dundalk with modern offices and commercial buildings all incorporating Metal Technology glazing. The 23-hectare Investment Development Agency (IDA) sponsored Finnbar Business and Technology Park is located on the Dublin to Belfast route. Constructed in three phases, the scheme incorporates 3000m? of Metal Technology's System 17 curtain wall, System 4-20 casement windows and System 10 doors over three, three-storey buildings already on site. Set into aluminium panels, the glazing offers facade technology with high U-values. The IDA is responsible for the promotion of Ireland for Foreign Direct Investment.

Borders on the facade

Metal Technology Borders on the facadeAs part of a ?5 million refurbishment programme at Stobo Castle near Peebles in the Borders area of Scotland, a full height curved, glazed facade from Metal Technology has been applied. The company's System 17 curtain wall was specified to create the main architectural feature of the spa complex. This 27m by 5.9m faceted screen provides views over the surrounding gardens and hills. Designed to offer flexibility to architects, the curtain walling is a stick system with a range of caps to ensure that the external projections suit the character and restrictions of the building. This system is also tested to meet the performance requirements of BS 6375 Pt 1 and BS 4873. A full dynamic test as laid down by the CWCT has also been successfully carried out.

Retail units, residential accommodation and the Scottish Youth Theatre are all contained within the Grade B listed Victorian building. Supermarket system

Metal Technology Supermarket systemWith a curved design, a glass fa?ade by Metal Technology has been applied to an Asda supermarket in Poole. System 17 curtain walling with slim profiles was used for the 1100m two storey fa?ade. The main entrance area has Asda's trademark 6mm toughened green outer pane, a 16mm argon filled cavity, 9.5mm clear anti-bandit inner pane and white powder coated aluminium framing. Document L compliant, the profiles also meet european thermal standards.

In this project, it ensured a contrast to the existing vertical aesthetic.

The company designed, engineered and installed the 25m double-glazed fa?ade, consisting of 40 of their Sheerglaze frameless glass sections. Metal Technology Heading for curtain wallingFor a new 25000ft? town centre office development in Birkenhead, an architectural aluminium glazing system from Metal Technology has been provided. A grey/green fa?ade for the three storey, two-unit building has utilised the company's System 17 curtain walling for the main building envelope, with some 100 System 4-20 casement windows glazed into the fa?ade to provide ventilation. Both of the systems are thermally enhanced and Document L compliant, with the potential to incorporate double glazing from 24 to 32mm.

Metal Technology Working in a sensitive build project, MDS Architectural has fabricated and installed window and curtain walling, using Metal Technology glazing systems, at Ryon Hill Park, Stratford-upon-Avon. Incorporated into brick and concrete elevations was 1110m� of the company's document L compliant 5-20 polyamide tilt turn windows and System 8 curtain walling, both double glazed with 28mm units to give maximum thermal efficiency. The tilt turn windows also provide internal opening for cleaning from within the building.

Metal Technology Learning curveOne of Ealing's flagship schools, Brentside High School, is now accommodating its pupils in a three storey, purpose built complex with architectural glazing by Metal Technology. The school features a dramatic, double-curved, pale aquamarine cladding to one elevation and blocks of colourful concrete.
